Introduction

On October 29, 2024, POLITICO news published the emerging conflict between the European Central Bank (ECB) and several European Union (EU) member states regarding the control of the digital euro. The ECB is developing the digital euro to compete with U.S. firms like Visa and Mastercard. As the project nears completion, countries such as France and Germany worry about the ECB's control over how much digital currency citizens can hold. This conflict questions the balance of power between the ECB and EU member states.

On October 30, 2024, European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority announced that the ESAs have published their third annual report on the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), assessing Principal Adverse Impact (PAI) disclosures at entity and product levels. The report highlights improvements in the accessibility and quality of PAI disclosures and notes slight enhancements in SFDR compliance observed by some National Competent Authorities (NCAs). Recommendations are provided for NCAs to ensure consistent supervision and for the European Commission to conduct a thorough SFDR assessment.
