FANEROMENI22 Arts Festival

The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation continues the tradition of the Faneromeni Arts Festival, opening again this year the city`s largest venue for Faneromeni 22. From mid-June until the end of September, a multidimensional interactive arts festival will take place in the open-air amphitheatre of the Cultural Foundation, which aspires to become the city's most vibrant cultural nucleus.

A unique amalgamation of arts, eras and artists from different areas, based on the rich history of the Cultural Foundation, enables to demonstrate a series of events appealling to all ages.

The newly formed band "Trio Rondine" will open the season of summer events with the concert "Songs like swallows" on Thursday, 23 June. Their repertoire includes traditional and contemporary songs from Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Corsica, Syria, Lebanon, Croatia, France, Spain, Morocco, Libya, Egypt, and well-known themes from the most remarkable movies. The band will also present their original unpublished material inspired by the musical traditions of the Mediterranean.

On 30 June, the next event will follow – the theatrical performance “Ioannis Kapodistrias: in the footsteps of a great leader” produced by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Greece. A journey through the life of the great politician, with stops to regard the most important events and the most important female figures he met on his way. A journey full of espionage, secret intrigues, but also dedication and fidelity to his goal – to liberation of the Greek nation.

On 14 July, the Macumba music band presents original compositions and original arrangements inspired by Latin Jazz and by the world music. The style of music played by Macumba is mainly a fusion of Latin, Brazilian, Spanish, Jazz and traditional music. It is a different approach to Latin music, an explosive blend of Brazilian funk, samba, rumba, guaguanco, afro-cuban, through the contemporary jazz aesthetic.

The performance "O topos en o adropos" (28 July), combining dance and music, is inspired by the monumental work of the great Cypriot painter Adamantios Diamantis (1900-1994) "The World of Cyprus" (1967-1972), charcoal and acrylic on Irish linen comprising eleven panels (Leventis Gallery).

The Cypriot composer Evagoras Karageorgis approached this great work musically, having created his work “The Story Of A Picture” in 2000. A performance that revives elements of our folk tradition through modern dance, a journey of memory, celebration and nostalgia.

This magical journey ends on 15 September with a very special event, the performance "The Magic Circle" by the Yasemin group, involving a multitude of renowned artists, all of whom stand out in their fields. The inspiration for this show comes from the magical world of circus with a large and impressive production with actors, dancers, musicians, jugglers, acrobats, clowns, giving space to artistic creation. The group is joined by a circus artist-acrobat from Colombia.

Τhis year, the courtyard of the Cultural Foundation will also be transformed into an outdoor summer cinema for children and grown-ups, with a series of screenings in collaboration with the Friends of Cinema Society. The films that will be screened this year are: "ENCANTO (2021)" (7/7/22 – 9 p.m.), Documentary "Eleonora's Falcon – Life in Balance" (7/7/22 – 8 p.m.), "Jungle cruise (2021)" on 21/07/22 – 9 p.m.), Documentary "Eleonora's Falcon – Life in Balance" (21/07/22 – 8 p.m.), "Ghostbusters afterlife (2021)" (4/8/22 – 9 p.m.) and "Coco (2017)" (8/9/22 – 9 p.m.).
